Contraception Causes More Abortions?

More than half of all abortions are performed on expectant mothers who were using contraception the month that they got pregnant.

All contraception has a failure rate of 1% to 27%, depending on the type and usage. This means out of 100 women, one to twenty-seven women will get pregnant within the year. Condoms result in some of the highest rates of pregnancy. Those using contraception do not want to get pregnant, so when they do, abortion is often used as a back-up form of birth control.

Promoting contraception actually increases the numbers of abortions rather than decreasing it. Contraception gives a false sense of security causing women to become more sexually active and therefore increasing the likelihood of pregnancy.

In a test on African women on birth control pills several decades ago, scientists discovered that in order to completely stop the release of a woman's eggs through hormones, it killed the women, so lesser hormones are used. If the hormones do not prevent ovulation, they work by making the uterus inhospitable to life.

Many methods of contraception cause the mother's uterus to become hostile to her newly conceived child, causing an early abortion. These are known as "abortifacients". All hormonal chemicals have the potential to be abortifacients.

It is not fully known how usage of these chemicals over years may increase a woman's inability to retain a pregnancy and contribute to infertility. It is also not widely published the side-effects of these chemicals on the emotional and physical well-being of women, though we do know side-effects may include depression, mood swings, irritability, water retention, hypertension, and potential stroke.

For those parents who don't want to cause the loss of a child, it's important to know the failure rate and how the contraceptive works. Even better, a couple working together to understand and work with a woman's natural cycle is 99% effective with no side-effects.

Here is a great video on the relationship between contraception and abortion by Lila Rose of Live Action: "The Truth About Sex".
