Truth, Light, and Love Defeat Lies  – Response to the Passage of 79

Updated: Nov 15

By Angela Eicher

The recent passage of Amendment 79 into the Colorado Constitution leaves many logical people scratching their heads, wondering how can our state be so evil.

I believe part of the problem is the lack of truth, light, and love. Too many efforts attempt to defeat evil without good and to dispel lies without truth.

Looking at the main points marketed by some prominent pro-life organizations opposing amendment 79 we see this. According to Righttoknowcolorado.com of the Pro-Life Coalition to defeat amendment 79 - which told more than thirty prolife organizations to defer to their marketing strategy - here are their points:

- It bans any limits on late abortions.  Even reasonable limits such as prohibiting abortions in the ninth month of pregnancy on healthy mothers and healthy babies would be illegal under this amendment.

-  It bans parental notice laws

- This amendment clears the way for tax-payer-funded abortion with no reasonable restrictions or limits of any kind

-  Reckless and Extreme: It goes far beyond what Roe v Wade authorized, banning any reasonable limits

What are “reasonable limits”? Is abortion itself not inherently evil and unreasonable? Are we agreeing that women need "some" abortion or may be harmed or die without affordable abortion? Are we abandoning the fact that abortion kills a tiny human infant who is innocent and doesn't deserve or want to die?

Based on this messaging, one would logically conclude something along these lines: abortion must be wrong in the ninth month of pregnancy on healthy mothers and babies and parents of minors should be notified in cases of abortion.

The messaging opposed to 79 did not dismantle the lie of abortion itself, but rather, enabled it as reasonable. This gives footing to the “what if” cases and to the worry of discrimination.  It takes the matter out of the objective realm of right or wrong [taking away the lives of innocent human beings as wrong] and places it into a subjective, relative category where one has to weigh many pros and cons and consider the level of trust in each of the sources spouting opposing points of view, rather than discovering observable and irrefutable facts that could save children's lives.

To defeat lies, we must speak truth. To dispel darkness, we must shed light. To combat hate, we must love. Enter Truth, Light, and Love.

Truth. Spontaneous abortion, or miscarriage, is when a child dies of natural causes in the womb.  Elective abortion involves suctioning, poisoning, or dismembering a living child in order to cause his/her death and removing their body from the womb. Elective abortions are inherently evil and never reasonable even with restrictions.

It is a scientific fact that abortion is never necessary. It is a Biblical truth that children are a gift. God wants us to “rescue those being led to slaughter”. He expects us to love our neighbor and follow His command, “thou shalt not kill”.

Light. Any concerns for mothers or children can be resolved without intentionally killing a child.  It is always wrong to intentionally take away the life of a child, and to do so always harms the mother, the family, and those involved. Women who have abortions have an 81% increase in psychological problems and suicidal tendencies. At least 1 in 25 mothers seek emergency medical care for physical problems following an abortion.

Love. There are non-violent alternatives available that do not harm women, address the real difficulties of mothers, and protect the lives of their children.

There are 36 families wanting to adopt a baby for every one baby available to adopt. Through the gift of modern adoption, bio mom can choose the parents she'd like to raise her baby and how involved she'd like to be in her child's life.

More than 44 pregnancy care and resource centers exist in Colorado that do not charge for their services, providing infant clothing, parenting classes, referrals to community resources, emotional support, and often free ultrasound, prenatal vitamins, and sometimes even testing and treatment for STI's.

Children are made in the image of God. We are all created by God who is Love, for the very purpose of love. We show our love for one another by giving of our time, talents, and treasure to help each other.

As Christians, we are called to be light in the world, and to do so, we must speak the truth. Evil cannot conquer evil. It is evil to ignore the plight of these children. It is not truthful to skirt around the edges of the argument. Truth won over evil through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We just have to walk in the light, speak the truth, and act from love. Darkness cannot exist in light. Evil cannot continue when exposed.

Lead us Lord, light our path, grant us wisdom, strength, and perseverance.  In your mercy forgive us our sins and defend us against the attacks of the enemy as we journey to You.  Our heart’s desire is to be Your instrument, helping guide more souls to You, helping build Your Kingdom.  All praise and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ. Now and Forever. Amen

"And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.  If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.  But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin." – 1 John 1:5-7
