Yes, America, We have a King

Updated: Jul 21

Given the events of the last few weeks and the upcoming celebration of the birth of this nation, it seems appropriate in this Constitutional Republic to address an issue upon which we may all agree, namely, that we do not serve an earthly king. That said, we do have a King.

Yes, we have a King. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords against whom mankind has rebelled and to Whom all will give account. And for which Christ has died and was raised again to reconcile all under the Lordship of Christ. To whom every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus is Lord. He alone raises up and tears down leaders, sometimes as we deserve and sometimes better than we deserve.

For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written:

“As surely as I live,

says the Lord,

every knee will bow before Me;

every tongue will confess to God.”

So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. (Romans 14:10-13)

No amount of riots or rebellion changes that. And in the United States of America, there is no reason for that. We have a government where we have a right to petition the government. Any law-abiding citizen may pick up the phone to call their state or federal congress representative and tell them what laws they want passed or defeated. Where elections are transparent and each citizen gets one vote, we can fire those who do not represent us well through our vote. If they are not listening, we also have the opportunity within the state to go directly to the people through the ballot.

The President of the United States is obligated to carry out the law which is his sworn duty to do under the United States Constitution. It's his job to protect this independent nation from foreign invasion and enforce immigration law that allows people to come into the United States legally (which includes learning how our government works, to be protected by and obey our laws which also prevents exploiting the alien in our land from being threatened and taken advantage of). If those laws are not fair, that can be taken to Congress who makes the law, not the President who enforces the law, nor the Judiciary that applies the law.

And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. (See 2 Thessalonians)

This nation was founded upon Biblical principles. And that is not something to protest. Every life matters. No one has the right to take it upon themself to take away the life of another human being. We are each image bearers - some tarnished and in need of redemption - and each loved by the Father who wants us to know Him through His one and only Son Jesus Christ.

I am thankful for the heritage of this great nation that was intended to be a "city upon a hill" and thankful for the anniversary of the United States Army celebrated through a parade in Washington, DC that, as the Lord would have it, coincided with our sitting President's birthday. Many men and women have worn that uniform proudly, my father included.

These destructive distractions from the patriotism we can each have for our country and gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice many have given for our freedoms are not unlike the rebellion and usurpation of the devil himself. They neither glorify God nor call our country to a better place. They are meant to divide, distract, discourage, and deceive - all from the devil's playbook.

Yes, we have a King. His name is Jesus.

Here is a wonderful list of quotes from our founding fathers showing the basis of this nation on the faith and freedom of Jesus Christ:
