No King?

In a Constitutional Republic, we do not serve an earthly king. The President of the United States - even if he exerts all of his executive powers - can only carry out the executive branch of the government which is to enforce existing laws. The legislative branch of government - which includes both houses of Congress - makes the law on behalf of the citizens they represent, who elected them, and controls the "power of the purse". The judicial branch of government - the Supreme Court - judges actions against their interpretations of the U.S. Constitution. Members of the Supreme Court are appointed by a sitting president and typically last through multiple presidents. All three branches of government swear by oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America which is written to limit the powers of the federal government to such things as defending the nation against foreign and domestic threats and to ensure domestic tranquility.
In the United States of America, we have a government where we have a right to petition our government. Any law-abiding citizen may pick up the phone or write a letter or email to their state or federal congress representative to tell them what laws they want passed or defeated. We can speak in committee meetings. We can even have peaceful gatherings outside a capitol. Where elections are transparent and each citizen gets one vote, we can fire those who do not represent us. We also have the opportunity within our state to go directly to the people through the ballot.
The President of the United States is obligated to carry out the law which is his sworn duty to do under the United States Constitution. It's his job to protect this independent nation from foreign invasion and enforce immigration law that allows people to come into the United States legally (which includes learning how our government works, to be protected by and obey our laws which also prevents exploiting the alien in our land from being threatened and taken advantage of as slave labor). If those laws are not fair, that can be taken to Congress who makes the law, not the President who enforces the law, nor the Judiciary that applies the law.
This nation was founded upon Biblical principles. It was built on the premise that all men are created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (or land ownership). These were not given by government, and therefore cannot be taken away by government. These include the right to continue living and to be safe in our persons. The struggle is to apply the existing law - as intended - to every segment of human beings and citizenry. In our lifetime, that means applying those inalienable rights to the youngest and most vulnerable among us because every life matters. No one has the right to take it upon themself to take away the life of another human being. We are each image bearers - some tarnished and in need of redemption - and each loved by the Father who wants us to know Him through His one and only Son Jesus Christ.
I am thankful for the heritage of this great nation that was intended to be a "city upon a hill" and thankful for the anniversary of the United States Army celebrated through a parade in Washington, DC that, as the Lord would have it, was the same day the 47th President would be born and get to experience this year. Many men and women have worn that uniform proudly, my father included.
The destructive and divisive distractions from the patriotism we can each have for our country and gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice many have given for our freedoms are not unlike the rebellion and usurpation of the devil himself. They neither glorify God nor call our country to a better place. They are meant to divide, distract, discourage, and deceive - all from the devil's playbook. They are based in the sins of pride, hate, usurpation, envy, and strife. While protestors may hold up signs against a president who isn't a king, I wonder if there isn't a more underlying rebellion against the one who is a King, as all authority ultimately comes from Him.
There is a King, and the government rests on His shoulders. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords against whom mankind has rebelled and to Whom all will give account. Through the death and resurrection of Christ, all will be reconciled under the Lordship of Christ to whom every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess Jesus is Lord. He alone raises up and tears down leaders, sometimes as we deserve and sometimes better than we deserve. There will be no riots, protests, or demonstrations when He subdues His enemies under His feet.
"The authorities that exist have been appointed by God. 2Consequently, whoever resists authority is opposing what God has set in place, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves." (Romans 13:1-2)
(Note: the authority of the United States of America is the U.S. Constitution to which all three branches of government on federal and state levels must submit, or they are imposters.)
"They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful. They invent new forms of evil; they disobey their parents. They are senseless, faithless, heartless, merciless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things are worthy of death, they not only continue to do these things, but also approve of those who practice them." (Romans 1:29-32)
For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written:
“As surely as I live,
says the Lord,
every knee will bow before Me;
every tongue will confess to God.”
So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.
Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. (Romans 14:10-13)
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. (See 2 Thessalonians)
Here is a wonderful list of quotes from our founding fathers showing the basis of this nation on the faith and freedom of Jesus Christ:
