Colorado Taxpayers Fund Abortions

Updated: Aug 30

The majority rule of the state legislature in special session once again disrespected the voters of Colorado and other members of the legislature by addressing the excessive deficit of the state through raising taxes without the consent of voters and simultaneously increased spending for killing children before they can be born. But the issue goes deeper than our pocketbooks.

Applying equal protections under the law for persons prior to birth can take the form of lobbying a conservative Congress to pass a law, requesting a conservative President or Governor to enforce Constitutional law, or challenging an unconstitutional state law to make its way through the judiciary to the United States Supreme Court. Following the path of slavery in this country that was originally left to the states, the issue of protecting the youngest and most vulnerable among us will need to make it to the federal level to be resolved, since it is a human rights issue.

Until this is solved on a national level, we are responsible for our state and the laws that govern us. While the majority in the legislature seem intent on creating and expanding every form of evil they can think of to kill and castrate children, destroying our own citizens and the future of this state, we do have a way to bypass them legally as Colorado citizens.

We do this through a people's ballot initiative. Because in Colorado, we are promoting life through a ballot initiative, we have registered with the state as the Colorado Life Initiative. The Colorado Life Initiative is a grassroots movement in the body of Christ praying and working in faith to pray, inform, and put compassion into law to protect all children.

The Colorado Life Initiative

is a grassroots movement in the Body of Christ

mobilizing our congregations and communities

to pray, inform, and put compassion into law

to protect all children.

We are putting forward two initiatives during the 2025-2026 election cycle: the Right to Be Born amendment which removes tax funded abortion all nine months of pregnancy, and Protect Pregnant Mothers and Preborn Children revised statute which will close abortion clinics and prevent abortion pills in the state. The amendment requires 2% of voters from each Senate District to sign and a total of 125,000 validated signatures to make the ballot. The statute requires only the 125,000 signatures.

The process itself to get onto the ballot has benefit. When researching, we found that with every personhood amendment that has made the ballot in Colorado, abortions decreased in the state by 10% over the following three years. (Reported by both the Guttmacher Institute and Charlotte Lozier Institute.) When a partial protection was put forward in the state, abortions rose by 4%. We believe it is because our political efforts undermined our educational efforts.

These life initiatives provide an opportunity for Coloradans in every Senate District to gather signatures on the official paper petition to make a difference in our state. Signatures may be gathered anywhere you have a legal right to be - your church, public sidewalks, your business, events, grocery stores, even door-to-door, etc. Those on our email distribution list will receive updates when petitions are ready and we will offer training. We will be encouraging everyone who would like to participate to fill petitions as quickly as possible and return them quickly, so we can keep a running tally for each district.

Law teaches right from wrong, deters the wrong, and brings justice for the victims. It takes the same amount of effort and money to speak the whole truth and nothing but the truth as it does to obscure it. We don't have to be crafty and clever. We just need to speak and act on the truth so people can find it, as the Bible instructs.

While working to change the law, we speak the truth in love about the humanity of these children, the resources available for their mothers, and how intentionally killing any child is never necessary. We back up our words with action. If through our words and our actions, we can communicate clearly why we oppose abortion - because it kills children (of course, killing their children harms their mothers, too) - then our political stance will not be hypocritical to what we say we believe and the reality that both embryologists and theologians agree, that abortion kills living human beings. These are our own citizens, our own children, our own humanity.

If we truly believe in the humanity of these precious children with fingers and toes, personalities and souls, heartbeats and brainwaves, feeling joy and pain, and moving away from touch to their face by seven weeks (before even entering fetal development), and trying to get away from abortion instruments even in the first trimester - that they are no different than you and me, but the same as us, and one of us - we would not allow them to continue to be killed in their mothers' wombs, which should be the safest place to be. They have as much right to continue living as any one of us does.

It is within our power and authority as Christians and Colorado citizens to end abortion. We condone abortion when we allow it to legally continue. More than half of Christians do not vote. And many of those who do vote are misguided by appeals to their compassion contrary to the laws and love of God. (As if disregarding God's law makes us more compassionate than God?) According to Pew Research, 61% of Colorado adults attend church at least several times during a year. Assuming a fair and transparent election, if just 20% more churchgoers will vote Biblically, we can pass any initiative in the state!

People don't magically evolve into better natures. Without Christ, the sinful nature remains without recourse. And it's precisely for those who would break the law that we create the law. (1 Timothy 1:9) We cannot wait until people evolve (they won't), or through our best educational efforts decide to do the right thing. Education alone won't help people do the right thing. We will be in heaven before everyone chooses to do the right thing. Every law reflects our understanding - or misunderstanding - of human nature.

We will never change the culture if our actions do not match our words. That is why we speak and work in faith for equal protections under the law for all innocent persons, including those who due to age have not yet been born. They are already here among us in need of parents, families, communities, churches, and government to protect them. This includes men and women at every level. We are who these children depend upon to protect them. It is our responsibility to create the laws that protect them.

If we can get the life issue right, we can get the less important policies right. Through prayers of repentance and actions in-keeping with repentance, we can replace unjust laws for good ones that God can bless. And to the legislators disrespecting citizens of the United States and the people of Colorado, we can legally end abortion without them.

The goal of our instruction is the love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and a sincere faith. 6Some have strayed from these ways and turned aside to empty talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or that which they so confidently assert. Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it legitimately. 9We realize that law is not enacted for the righteous, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for killers of father or mother, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave traders and liars and perjurers, and for anyone else who is averse to sound teaching that agrees with the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, that He considered me faithful and appointed me to service. I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a violent man; yet because I had acted in ignorance and unbelief, I was shown mercy. And the grace of our Lord overflowed to me, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. This is a trustworthy saying, worthy of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst. But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His perfect patience as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, and invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1: 5-17
