Do Words Matter?

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." (Proverbs 18:21, KJV)
"I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak," (Matthew 12:36, ESV)
Concerning the tongue, James writes: "Consider ships as well. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot is inclined." (James 3:4, ESV)
Scripture says our words have the power of life and death! God tells us our words are powerful.
What are your words planting? What will your words reap?
How do you speak about your spouse, marriage, children, family, parents, supervisor, co-workers, church, leaders, efforts to protect life ... ? What are you saying that people will repeat?
Pay attention to the words you speak. Your words are seeds of what you want to see. What you say sets the course for your life and those around you. We know the words we speak to children go into their innermost being and tell them who they are. How you talk is what you want to be. Your words set the direction for what you will experience.
Are you speaking Truth? Faith? Fear? Doubt? Encouragement? Discouragement? Timidity? Boldness? Good news? Worry or faith? Are you begging or believing? Do people want to join what you're doing? What are you offering them? Why would they want to get involved? Are you speaking words of life or death? Are you protecting children (life)? Or are you talking more about abortion (death)? Are you focused on Christ or someone else? Are you repeating what God says, or what others say? Are you talking about faith? Or are you talking about the wicked who are but a vapor and will disappear? Are we talking about how we're taking back the state or the gates of hell that cannot stand against us?
I think of how we report news. How we speak about our state. How doctors diagnose fatal conditions, particularly of children in the womb. How we will often speak the worst for the future rather than what we hope to see. How we speak about the "unborn" rather than "preborn" children who will be born. And "unplanned" pregnancies, like we don't know how pregnancies occur. How we've adopted words like "transgender" when there is no such thing. Or "abortion" when no one knows what that means. How we talk about children before they are born like they are somehow different than they will be following birth. How we say "mother-to-be" when she is already a mother.
God loves and wants to rescue these children and their mothers more than we do - He has commissioned us to be His hands and feet on this earth to "Rescue those being led away to death...." (Proverbs 24:11) We don't have to beg God to do what He has instructed us to do. The weapons God has given us are strong to tear down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).
Are our words planting vision for when mothers and babies are supported and encouraged to live and thrive? What will it look like when parents are expected to protect their children and are referred to only non-violent resources? What will it look like when death facilities close and drugs intended to kill people are no longer legally bought and sold? What will it look like when we value precious children and protect pregnant mothers? When we embrace the protection of fathers? When we speak the entire counsel of God from the pulpit?
What will parachurch organizations do when the church itself rises up to speak LIFE over our state?
Pray for workers, for people, for boldness, for faith, for actions and words in-keeping with our repentance. Remember to read Scripture daily and listen as God speaks - we know His voice to follow Him. The heart deceives, but God is bigger than our hearts.
I'm trying to not even use the word "abortion" because it is a word of death. We are protecting children - we want them to live!
Everywhere our feet walk, let's take back the land!
