Dear Respected Colleague,
Thank you for your tremendous sacrifices to help protect the lives of our youngest neighbors. I wanted to share my personal experience with working on two separate campaigns. In 2020, I gathered over 600 voter signatures for a ballot initiative in Colorado to end late term abortion in our state. In 2022 and again in 2024, I gathered nearly 2,000 voter signatures total to protect the lives of all children equally beginning at conception.
I was surprised by how effortlessly the conversations in the campaign to protect all children often turned to the sanctity of human life, to God's miracle of life, to humans as God's image bearers, and even at times to God's great mercy for past mistakes. The question, "Will you help me put on the ballot a measure to protect all children beginning at conception?" gave many, many people pause. I could see the truth working on their hearts. I knew even if they did not sign my petition a seed of truth had been planted. A seed of truth to impact future life decisions.
Colorado had a series of personhood amendments appear on the ballot over the course of about 6 years from 2008 to 2014. Our state experienced a 10% decline in the abortion rate following this and the lower trend remained steady for several years after. In 2014 when the last of the personhood amendments appeared on the ballot, an estimated 15,150 children were sacrificed whereas just two years later in 2016 an estimated 12,467 children were sacrificed. With no new messages going out the public on the sanctity of life, this lower trend remained fairly steady with the estimated children lost in 2019 just up slightly from 2016 at 13, 940.
Conversely, with the question of a late term abortion ban coming into the public eye, the state saw a dramatic increase in child sacrifice in our state. An estimated 16.449 children were sacrificed in 2020 and just two years later this number rose to 22,986 children. On a personal note, my experience with this campaign of gathering voter signatures to end late term abortion was not fruitful. I never had the opportunity in the late term abortion ban campaign to speak of God while gathering signatures. I could only say that "this would save lives and that these children could already live outside the womb with the assistance of modern medicine." Of course, I knew full term babies healthy at birth really could not live on their own either. They would need parents and caregivers for many years. I knew in my heart my words were only partial truth, leaving people yet enslaved to lies. And I felt guilty.
I just wanted to reach out and share my experience. While I would never hinder any efforts to save lives, I have vowed from now on to speak and to advocate for the truth. I want to speak the truth when I reach out to others. I want others to speak the truth to me..... that is loving my neighbor as myself. If we know the Truth, please let's use our time, talents, and treasure to share Him with others. Anything less I believe keeps them enslaved to a lie.
Thanks so much and God bless,
Angela Eicher
From a Christian and Biblical standpoint, we cannot condone one child to die. Even on the altar of political expediency or "winning". Chasing public opinion is a losing battle because Scripture says, "men will go from bad to worse" (2 Timonthy 3:13).
Galatians 6:7 tells us, "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." Planting the seeds of truth we want to harvest - saving all babies - grows momentum. "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9)
By matching our policy to our educational efforts, we grow momentum and prevent having to re-educate. We prevent the loss of life to unjust laws - for which God judges nations. And we resist the temptation to participate in child sacrifice by condoning unjust laws that protect some children while allowing other children to die (sacrificing them on the altar of political gain). People hear our actions much more loudly than our words.
It is just as easy to protect all children as a few - and equally difficult. We have a brief opportunity to save these children that we may not have in another generation, if ever. Public opinion is fickle. But truth is immovable. And God's judgment is inevitable for nations that enact unjust laws.
Do you see that by saving late term babies, you are condemning younger babies to die? It puts into law that children younger than late term babies may be killed. To quote someone else, "Anything that ends with '.... and then you can kill the baby'" is an unjust law. There is no need to do that.
The only way to defeat this evil is to be on the side of what is right, in order to have God's blessing. We cannot win if God directly opposes the efforts we put forward that show partiality and injustice (Proverbs 24:23). We cannot save a few babies, but we can save all of them... with God's help. It involves speaking and working in faith in a God of the possible, not based on what people think but what God thinks. We cannot defeat evil by compromising with it and thereby participating in the evil ourselves.
Because this is not a political issue - this is a righteousness issue - leaders must lead, not just do what the people want. We must serve God rather than men.
Please do not make the mistake of standing against righteous efforts of repentance that will accomplish what you say is your ultimate goal. Capitulation and compromise with evil cannot end this current holocaust. But obedience to Christ and His Word in how we treat the least of these will.
Only God knows how to defeat evil. As you know, allowing the killing of even one small child is evil. When we allow it, we participate in it. It is not the will of the Father that even one of these little ones should perish (Matthew 18:14).
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices more over that one sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. In the same way, your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish. - Jesus (Matthew 18:12-14)
There is no proof that incremental strategy works. There is proof throughout the Old Testament of the Bible that when the people returned to God, they took down the high places of idol worship and stopped the practice of child sacrifice. We need to repent fully for what we have done in killing these children and allowing them to be killed. What we have done to the least of these, Jesus says we have done to Him (Matthew 25).
We can lead public opinion rather than follow it. We can lead with policy. We don't have to shy away from the biological and theological fact that we are each living human beings from the moment we are conceived. Children deserve the protection of parents and the law from the moment children are conceived.
To be a leader means to lead, not follow, what others think. I pray you will seek the Lord and written Scriptures on God's opinion on this. We are not in this to win, because we know we have already won, we are in this to be faithful and obedient to what God has called each of us to do. We are each called to speak the truth in love-- the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
When someone first told me all this, my immediate response was to feel angry. I did not want to face that I had believed a lie. I wrestled over it. And when I realized I'd been wrong, I repented to God for it.
I pray God will use this to encourage you and exhort you to dream bigger, reach higher, and dare to ask for more. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" (Matthew 7:7)
Most importantly, I pray you have asked Jesus to be your personal Savior and Lord. And if you haven't, that you would consider asking Him to save you from your sin by grace through faith in what He did for you on the cross. If you ask Him to come into your life, He will. And when you submit your decisions to His leadership, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” - Jesus (Matthew 11: 28-30)
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Jesus said, "“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).
Isaiah 10:1-3
Woe to those who enact unjust statutes
and issue oppressive decrees,
to deprive the poor of fair treatment
and withhold justice from the oppressed of My people,
to make widows their prey
and orphans their plunder.
What will you do on the day of reckoning
when devastation comes from afar?
To whom will you flee for help?
Where will you leave your wealth?
Isaiah 5:20-23
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
and clever in their own sight.
... who acquit the guilty for a bribe
and deprive the innocent of justice.
Proverbs 24:23
To show partiality in judgment
is not good.
Deut. 16:19-20
Do not deny justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous. Pursue justice, and justice alone, so that you may live, and you may possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
Proverbs 17:15
Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent-- the LORD detests them both.
